Setup new node - cannot connect to outside world

!Friendica Support

Hi friends, I hope you can help me with this - first my excuses for asking such rookie questions because I'm totally green to this stuff ;)

I have my profile now on friendica.world, but with another prophile I'm trying to setup a new node with Elestio on a Scaleway server. 001.fediversenederland.nl/

All fine, but the server does not seem to connect to the outside world. There are no channels visible, and when searching it finds only posts from this group. In the admin settings the global guide is set to dir.friendica.social and this shows as a link in the welcome-widget, but if I click it, it opens in a new window.

This could be a bug in the installation but it can of course easily be a very basic setting or configuration that I overlook. Any ideas? Thanks a lot in advance!

Not knowing anything about setting up a Friendica server, but a lot about Linux, could it be you have a software firewall running that blocks the traffic?

Thanks Dennis - valid suggestion but in this case I don't think it is the culprit. But thanks for your help.

You probably have gone through all the settings, but anyway, check that you don't have for example "Only local search" enabled.

How long your server has been up? If not for long, I would suggest that you just wait for couple days. When I set up mine, it seemed that there was nothing at first, but gradually more stuff became visible.

Thanks Esko, your second suggestion seems to be a good one. I was just impatient :). Also it seems to be due to a lack of my experience to Friendica itself. Thirdly, the server from which I was trying to check accounts was down yesterday - so no wonder why I got no data ;)

You have to subscribe to other people to receive content from them. You should also consider subscribing to some relay servers (I don't have got a current list) to get some traffic outside of your subscribed accounts.

thanks Michael - the problem was that I also could not find other people ;). But all seems to be working better now. I also have to do some more research on the app itself, besides installing it ... it's a learning curve ;)
